A Word from the Principal

At Lift & Escalator Academy (LEA), we believe that technical skills are the backbone of a safe and sustainable built environment. In an industry where precision, safety, and knowledge are critical, technical competency is not just an advantage—it’s a necessity.

As principal, I’ve seen how proper hands-on training can transform individuals into confident, capable professionals who are ready to take on the challenges of the vertical transportation industry. Our goal at LEA is to bridge the gap between theory and practice by offering industry-aligned programs, taught by experienced trainers, that prepare students for real work conditions.

Whether you’re just starting your journey or looking to upgrade your skills, LEA provides a solid foundation in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting—combined with the certifications and safety standards demanded by the industry. We are here not just to train, but to empower. We want every student who walks through our doors to graduate with the confidence, technical know-how, and discipline to thrive—not just locally, but regionally and globally.

I welcome you to LEA and look forward to seeing how your growth here will shape the future of this essential industry.

Sincerely,
Ir. Ahmad Khalil Azri Bin Mohamad
Principal, Lift & Escalator Academy (LEA)

Grounded Leadership, Global Vision

Datuk Fan Kong Thiam

At the heart of Lift & Escalator Academy (LEA) is the unwavering leadership of Datuk Fan Kong Thiam, a seasoned and highly respected figure in Malaysia’s vertical transportation industry. With over 20 years of practical, hands-on experience, Datuk Fan has built a reputation not only as a technical expert but as a visionary who deeply understands the needs, challenges, and potential of the lift and escalator sector.

Despite not coming from an academic background himself, Datuk Fan is a strong believer in the value of education—especially in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). His personal journey is a testament to the fact that experience and dedication can pave the way for success, but he firmly believes that future generations need the foundation of structured education to truly elevate the industry. This belief drives his commitment to supporting the Malaysian government’s push to strengthen TVET as a national priority.

Datuk Fan is also the founder of Potensi Terus Industries Sdn. Bhd., a prominent player in Malaysia’s lift services sector. Through his company, he has witnessed firsthand the capabilities of Malaysian technicians and engineers. While the industry often looks to countries like Japan, Germany, or other Western nations for inspiration and standards, Datuk Fan reminds us of a critical truth: it is Malaysian professionals who maintain and keep our country’s elevator systems running daily.

He advocates for a shift in mindset—one that recognizes the value of local expertise and takes pride in building homegrown talent. He believes that with the right training, support, and recognition, Malaysian technicians not only have the capacity to maintain our own infrastructure but can lead in servicing and innovating across Asia and beyond. His mission through LEA is clear: to nurture skilled professionals who are not just job-ready, but industry-ready—individuals who take pride in their craft and are confident in their abilities to represent Malaysia on a global stage. With Datuk Fan’s guidance, LEA is more than just a training institution; it is a platform to uplift Malaysian talent, shape future leaders in vertical transportation, and build a legacy of excellence rooted in both practical wisdom and formal education.
